Hello,
I made the test with the programs HTTPSniffer and ITNConv (which manages gmaps and openstreetmaps, but also viamichelin and ign), and here are summary logs for every service:
OpenStreet:
1, itnconv.exe, tile.openstreetmap.org/9/259/185.png, image/png, 200 OK, 472 + 0, 442 + 37027, 2 sec
OpenCycle:
1, itnconv.exe, tile.opencyclemap.org/cycle/8/131/91.png, image/png, 200 OK, 476 + 0, 393 + 48016, 2 sec
Google Maps:

RouteConverter is using this pattern for the MapNik map.

RouteConverter is using a different server here: http://andy.sandbox.cloudmade.com/tiles/cycle/ .

These two look like a completely different pattern that is very likely used by the OpenLayers API which RouteConverter is not supporting.
