Split/merging/joining and other bits and bobs - quiet-ranger - 10.04.2022
To the creators: I have just installed and started using RouteConverter. Congratulations, the tool works on Linux and looks very cool! Now, if I may, I have two important suggestions:
- The use cases need to be expanded and perhaps embellished with pictures to help total beginners
- Your forum sucks in terms of performance. Far too slow to refresh and when I searched using an English word I got back a large number of German posts (I tried learning German a while ago but never got to a decent level, sorry) which is discouraging me from continuing to use the tool
To anybody who can help: I am a total beginner with GPX and I don't even know what is the difference between a route and a track. Nevertheless, I managed to load two GPX files (routes? tracks?) with the intention of creating a new route taking segments from both files. I started by deleting everything I did not want which was quite easy (see attachment). For simplicity, I shall use letters to denote points in the first route and numbers to denote points in the second route. So, after my trimming I ended up with something like
a, b, c, d, e, f, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
The problem I have is that the tool somehow linked point f with point 1 automatically. I have been trying very hard to break this link in order to link point f with point 7 and later try to link point a with point 1 to create a circular route. Could anyone explain to me how to achieve this using "instructions for dummies"?
My sincere apologies if the answer is already there in the forum but as I informed above, the speed and search facility makes it very unworkable. If someone answers this question I should get a link on my inbox. I am counting on that and I take this opportunity to thank you in advance.

I know. I've got a new server since last autumn and I don't find motivation to set it up so it can replace this very old one. Maybe there is a volunteer to step up...

Breaking up the lines between positions in a track won't work. And since it's just a visualization, it doesn't matter.
What's important is the order of the positions in the position list since that's exactly the order that is written to the GPX file.
Linking point a to point 1 means you have to revert point a to f:
- select point 1 and call Positionlist/Split to get the remainder out of the way for reversing
- call Positionlist/Reverse completely on the remaining list
- select point a and call Positionlist/Merge and select the remaining list

I've christened them "Position" in the software and on the website.
