Hello

After using RouteConverter for a few years, I have recently
been needing to translate Wahoo FIT files to GPX.

The FIT files contain connected device heart rate, ambient
temperature and cadence data (confirmed present using
other FIT viewing software).

However, within RC, when the FIT file is saved/exported
as a GPX file the cadence information is missing (again
confirmed using other software).

I assume that RC is either not reading the cadence data or
is not writing it. However upon checking the RC data columns,
Cadence is not listed therefore it has probably not been read
from the FIT file.

Thank you

Hello,

If it hasn't been implemented, I suggest making it possible to save the selected set of points into a new GPX file.

I expected "Export to a File" to do that, but it saved the whole file again.

"Copy" provides the data as CSV, requiring the user to turn those into a GPX file.

Cheers,

Hello,

The help file is empty and I found no item in the menu that looked like what I need to do.

When planning a multi-day bike trip, I need to split a track into days.

In GPS Track Editor (which, sadly no longer displays the Mapnik map, on my computer at this time at least), I simply right-clicked on a point and chose Restructuring > Add break.

In RC, PositionList > Split cuts the track at that point… while deleting the rest of the track :-/

Is there a work-around?

Thank you.
--
Edit: Unless there's a better way, I found a work-around since RC allows running more than one instance of the application:

Launch RC and open the whole GPX, select and copy the first section/stage

Launch a second instance of RC, paste the points, save as a new file, and close instance

Back in the whole file, delete that first section still selected, and proceed to the next section/stage. Repeat, rinse.

Finally, to merge all the stages into a single file, use eg. GpsBabel:

Code:

gpsbabel -i gpx -f 1.gpx -f 2.gpx -f 3.gpx -o gpx -F merged.gpx

Not as simple as splitting a track into segments with GpsTrackEditor in situ, but 1) RC is under development while GTE is deadware (and closed-source), and 2) it's easy enough.

Suggestions:

Support working on more than one file/section in a single instance of RC

Add File > Close to avoid having to close and relaunch RC to work on another file

In File > Open, after pasting a filename, Java adds a trailing space… which causes an error (same problem in JOSM, GpsPrune, etc.), which can take a little while to figure out the first time. Maybe it's just Java and there's no fix

I want to extract the waypoints from a very large number of small gpx and kml files into csv with traceability of the origin of each waypoint. I do not mind whether i get one output file per input or whether everything is lumped into the same output with a source indication added.

gpsbabel crashes when I request the batch mode to do this, despite multiple attempts. Processing each file individually by reloading babel for each file is very slow (my application has to run as a subprocess of another program running on Windows, so parallel makes are not an option).

Looking for alternatives I have just discovered RouteConverter and find it quite sexy! It seems that running RouteConverterCmdLine.jar, from jshell would be far more convenient and versatile than dealing with the idiosyncracies of gpsbabel, which is starting to look like legacy software, and this despite my java skills being very basic and rusty.

Running a full extraction of the file contents is easy and fast, I pipe in my initialization (log4j setup possibly broken in this extract):

I have tmp and temp environment variables set to f:\temp for user and system, so I guess routeconverter is attempting to drop the JRE folder into %temp% but is not correctly parsing the path.

I've gone back to 3.0 bundle, and that does drop the JRE folder in the correct place, ie F:\temp\jre-17.0.9

Apologies if this has already been raised - I couldn't see it via a quick search.

Would it be possible to offer the option to plot the route path with "heat map" colors?
A higher average speed would be a shade of RED, and a slower speed would be a shade of BLUE.

Also, could you create a sticky highlighting the differences between Time Album Pro and RouteConverter?

Thanks!
