Hello,
I would like to convert an xls or xlsx file to a gpx file.
What should the Excel source file contain? Do you need very specific titles? (Description, latitude, longitude…)

You have to keep certain name conventions, create yourself a sample: convert a GPX file to Excel, then look at the result with Excel.
