Mountain routes

Open Street Maps, trying to view Western Europe. About 50% of the display was just blank blocks. If you can suggest how to get full map coverage so I can use it to plan routes then I might have another go. Alternatively, just wait until Google start summer routing. Any idea when they switch? Or put it another way, when the roads cease to be flagged as impassable?
