Small Bug/Issue when saving Routes in 2,4
#1
Hi there,

tried to search the forum but couldn't see newer posts so I apologize if this is a duplicate - wanted to bring this up as it seems really annoying and occurs in the newest RouteConverter Version 2.4

When I create a Route and I leave the first entry in the list as is (for example Malmö) and I call the Route something arbitrary like 'Scania Tour' and then save and re-open it ... the of the Route will now be 'Start:Malmö to [last entry in the list]' and the another entry will have been added on the top above Malmö called 'Start:Malmö'

You can essentially keep doing this - not changing anything and saving - and each time RouteConverter will add an entry above the first called 'Start:[Name from original Point]'. Essentially you end up with something like 'Start:Start:Start:Start:Start:Malmö'

Of course I can go in and edit it in a Text Editor but if the XML creation would be a little tighter I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

jan

Hi jan,

which format are you using? Please upload the example file to a forum post by putting it into a ZIP archive.

Sorry - should have done it in the initial mail.

I am using the Navigon Mobile Navigator 7 Format with the *.freshroute extension.

If you look at the attached zip file I called the Route (under name) 'Ostfriesland_Route' and the first point on the list 'Emden'

If you now open it and simply add a space anywhere to force a change, then save and re-open you will see that the name as well as the first point will have changed (to 'Start:Emden'). You can keep doing it (to 'Start:Start:Emden', 'Start:Start:Start:Emden' and so on).

Thanks for looking into this,

jan

Now I understand. We've had the same discussion in German.

To sum up:

Users of Navigon and CoPilot have explained, that it's a feature of the software that the first waypoint is replaced by the current position when the routing of a route is initiated. If the first waypoint is not the current position, it is overwritten. Thus there is a feature to duplicate the first position for Navigon and CoPilot routes by writing a waypoint just next to the start position.

In the RouteConverter 1.x series it was position it was possible to en-/disable this with a checkbox before saving. In 2.0 with the new user interface I found no suitable place for the checkbox and disabled the feature. A lot of users complained and I reenabled it with 2.4 and now other users are complaining.

The latest prereleases offer a hidden option configurable by the registry to disable the feature again:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\slash\navigation\converter\gui\panels]
"duplicate/First/Position"="false"

I hope this helps?

Not sure what Users are complaining about - your software is awesome and free and it helps me generate Routes for my motorcycle tours that no other software (together with Google Maps) can.

I will try the key you send or simply just keep 'cleaning' the data after saving within the xml files before I upload it to the GPS Gizmo.

Thank you very much,

jan
