Name of Custom Garmin GPI
#1
I converted a CSV file to a Garmin GPI file as Waypoints. It worked perfectly however it appears in my nuvi250W under Custom POIs as "My points" which was not the same as either the CSV or GPI file names. The 250W does not provide for renaming this but I would prefer a more descriptive name.

I did not find any facility in RouteConverter 1.19 to select or change this name. Can a name be specified?

Hi canoe,

might be too technical, but is that the category option as described in http://www.gpsbabel.org/htmldoc-1.3.4/fm...n_gpi.html?

I don't know but the first few dozen bytes of the GPI file are:
00 00 00 00 16 00 00 00
47 52 4D 52 45 43 30 30 GRMREC00
54 98 D3 22 00 00 06 00 T"Ó"
6D 79 2E 67 70 69 01 00 my.gpi
00 00 0C 00 00 00 50 4F PO
49 00 00 00 30 30 E4 04 Iä
00 00 09 00 08 00 6D 43 mC
00 00 01 3D 00 00 0D 00 =
00 00 45 4E 09 00 4D 79 EN My
20 70 6F 69 6E 74 73 08 points
where the printing characters are on the right with the non-printing omitted.

I will try editting the file to change My Points to something else.

I guess a small dialog before saving or (which I would prefer)
using the route name as the category name would be a good idea?

Christian

I am not confident I really understand the "gpsbabel - Garmin Points of Interest (.gpi) (garmin_gpi) - category option."

However since the file I was converting was a series of unconnected points (not a route) I would think that using the "route name" could be confusing. How about a dialog to either use the route name or to allow entry of a name?

Thanks for your interest in my question.

Hi Robert,

actually I wanted to keep the application as simple as possible, omitting dialogs and buttons if possible. But here there seems to be no choice.

The 1.34 prerelease version sets the category for .gpi file to the name of the position list. Please test!
