Problem with Google Maps Links
#11
You did get this right? The 2 waypoint one worked, but the multiple waypoint did not.

1 - The test with 2 points (The link I first sent) worked great.
2 - When I drag the route on Google Maps to force a specific route, I get the following link:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=32...8&t=h&z=10

Then I try this one...The order of the waypoints is messed up. And also....waypoint number 1 is not where I placed the waypoint on Google Maps.

I have a test with multiple waypoints that works for me: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=32...e=UTF8&z=9

Your link from 2 seems to be broken. It doesn't work on Google Maps.

Hallo, I have a different workaround for the problem with Google Maps Links. I have found a good little tool GMapToGPX. With this tool it is possible to extract a normal GPX-File from the Google Map Route. You can choose weather you want it as Waypoints or as full Track (I prefer the full Track).

The resulting GPX-File can be normal opened in RouteConverter.

For me its working very well !

Maybe its possible to see how this small tool extracts the Waypoints or Trackpoints out of Google Map and insert it in RouteConverter ?

Here is the link for this tool : http://www.elsewhere.org/journal/gmaptogpx/

Try it !

Hi waldgeist,

it's indeed a nice tool, which is constantly updated since it needs a deep insight into the Google Maps API. I don't see the need to extract the waypoints I've handed over with RouteConverter to Google Maps. What are you thinking of?

Hi Christian,

I am using GM2GPX to transfer a Route from Google Maps to my Garmin etrex. I prefer the complete Track with all Trackpoints between Start and End and save it in a GPX-textfile as described in the link above. After loading the Track into my etrex i see the whole Track on the display together with my actual position and can walk or driver "on the line".

If I am using RouteConverter by dragging the Link into the right part of the RouteConverter-Window, I see the Route in the Google Maps Window on the left. But there are only two Waypoints (Start and End of the Route), and only two Trackpoints (also Start and End) in the right part. If I save this to a GPX-File and load it to my etrex, i see also only two points and not the whole track from Start to End.

What I want to say is, that it would be very comfortable, to drag the Route-link from Google Maps to RouteConverter and see all Trackpoints in the Trackpointlist, so that they can be saved to a file and loaded to the Garmin.

Even without this feature a great program and its working very fine to edit the Tracklogs from my Garmin !!

Greetings
Michael

Hi Michael,

that used to work until somewhen in Oktober(?) when Google changed the format of the
Code:
geocode
Parameter to something I can't decipher.

The approach from GMapToGPX is to directly read the Google Maps API structures. This is not feasible if you're doing drag and drop and RouteConverter is the drop target. All you get there is an URL. No possibility to hook in JavaScript code...
