Hi r777r,

thank you for reporting this problem. Actually, I'm using gpsbabel for the Nokia Landmark Exchange format and I don't see an option to change it's encoding.

I could replace the support for Nokia Landmark Exchange by a Java version, but I would need your help then since I cannot read or write Arabic. And of course I'd like to have an Arabic translation of the user interface Wink

So are you willing to help me?

Of course, since RouteConverter uses GPSBabel internally for Nokia Landmark .lmx files.

Please send me a simple test file with arabic and english names that works for you. Attached it inside a ZIP to this forum thread.

This method supports the Arabic language, but I do not know why not work on Mobile (you may need some modifications)

1. Open GPSconverter. Open POI file (any format).
2. Click on any single waypoint.
3. Click "Add all items". Now, all waypoints are on the right frame.
4. Choose output format as "csv comma delimited".
5. Click "Save" to create .csv file. Done with GPSconverter.
Place name and Latitude-Longitude data appear when open .csv with Excel.
6. Open excel2LMX-NokiaMap.xls. Then "copy & paste" those data series to "data sheet".
Do not paste them at wrong columns.
7. "Altitude" cannot be invalid. Let's fill "0" for all cells.
8. "CategoryName" cannot be invalid.
9. Switch to "File_Details" sheet, set your own file path and name of lmx file.
10. Press [Alt] + F8 to run embedded Macro. Done with Excel job.
11. Open your .lmx with "Notepad", then save it again as UTF-8 encoding format.
Now you have your own .LMX file. Enjoy!!

It's good and don't forget: I can neither read or write Arabic.

Please try the latest prerelease I've just uploaded. On my machine it can read and write Nokia Landmark files with Arabic (and Chinese) character. Does it work for you?

(21.05.2010, 11:05)r777r Wrote: Wait for me to translate correctly translated ..

Please translate just a few lines to test if it works and I can produce a RouteConverter containing your translation.

I hope you understand the structure of the properties file?

For example this defines the menu item to save a file:

Quote:save-action=Save
save-action-mnemonic=S
save-action-keystroke=ctrl S
save-action-icon=slash/navigation/converter/gui/save-action.png
save-action-disabled-icon=slash/navigation/converter/gui/save-action-disabled.png

Translating means, that you need to translate the 'Save' from save-action and choose a mnemonic. And if the keystrokes are different in the Arabic Windows, then choose another one.

The result could look like this:

Quote:save-action=حفظ
save-action-mnemonic=ح

Does this explanation help?

Good, some background on translations:

Java property files have to be encoded in ISO-8859-1 to be loaded properly from the class path. See here for a detailed explanation. The file you've sent me is UTF-8, which is fine but:

A conversion has to take place like this:

"c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_20\bin\native2ascii.exe" -encoding UTF-8 RouteConverter_ar.properties.utf8
RouteConverter_ar.properties

This is my job. The result is the file here and already part of RouteConverter

http://www.routeconverter.de/svn/RouteCo...properties (note the _ar)

I have attached the source file within a ZIP file to this post - please use it for further translations.

The latest prerelease I've just uploaded, allows to select Arabic (or what Google Translate returns) as a language below Extras/Options... RouteConverter then shows this file menu:

What you should do: Please double check the texts, mnemonics and keystrokes. Are they valid? If not, please send me a new RouteConverter_ar.properties.utf8 file, ok?
