Comments on MAC OSX version
#1
Hi,

I used Route Converter 2.7 64 bit to plan my trip to Italy. I read somewhere that you have little feedback on the mac version, so here are a couple of things that I found:

- The right click insert command on the map only works a couple of times, then nothing happens so the only way to add a way point is to center first and then use the top menu to add a new point
- It would be nice if it was possible to move a way point
- It is not possible to close the application normally. I always have to kill it.
- The file format .itf (for sygic) is missing. Now I make an itn file and convert it to itf using a tool that is only available for windows. It works OK, but it would be nice if you can add the itf format.

Nevertheless I managed to plan my trips. I hope you can fix right click insert; this was the most annoying issue.

BTW I also tested the beta. It had the same issues.

I forgot to mention I use OSX Lion 10.7.4 but of course that doesn't matter since Java is platform independent ;-)

Thank you for the feedback.

Strange. I don't have an idea what could cause this. Could there be something blocking WebKit and/or Safari?

I have reports that it is possible to drag-and-drop way points on the map under Mac OS X.

Did you use the .app.zip or the .jar version?

The .itf format is an undocumented binary format. I won't spend my precious time on this and it seems no one in the gpsbabel project, too.

Ok

So sad, I've changed the .app.zip initialization and hoped that the need to kill the app would vanish.

LOL, except for the map, gpsbabel and the libraries connected with the map Wink

Hello Christian,

I use the .app.zip version of the release version and the .jar version of the beta, since the .app.zip didn't unpack. It sais 'bewerking niet toegestaan' which means 'operation not allowed' when I want to open it.

When I try to drag and drop way points, the map moves along with the way point. In other words I can only pan. Am I doing something wrong?

The inserts fail after I zoom a couple of times. When I open the app and don't zoom I can add as many waypoints as i like. I was able to reproduce this a couple of times.

I don't know what you mean by 'blocking webkit or safari'. Safari works fine on my mac, I don't know what webkit is.

Here is a link to the ITN2ITF converter. Maybe you can build a web service around it and link that to your application. You should see what happens to the paypal donations if you do that!

https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B-s257F...M1FDckU4UQ

If you need any info on my configuration please ask. I'll be happy to help you if I can. I really like the idea of the application.

Is there a ZIP/StuffIt/Unpacker program installed on your machine?

I guess so. Do you start the drag with the red bubble with the black circle inside?

Thank you for the report. I've heard this several times and still investigate, what's happening there.

It's the browser component that is used by Safari - and by RouteConverter to display the map.

Where's the official download page for that file? I cannot provide such a service without checking the legal issues.

One more?

Thank you. I'm sorry that the experience on Mac OS X isn't that good. I'll keep working on it.

Hello Christian,

I see that Heddock on this Dutch forum claims to have developed the itn2itf converter. May be he can help you.

http://www.motor-forum.nl/forum/list_message/22597493

Regarding the moving of way points: It seems to be related to the insert problem. When I open the application and add a couple of waypoints I can indeed move them. When the insert command stops working only the red drop moves. Not the black donuts.

Also I just noticed that the map stops responding to clicks when I change to another program and return to routeconverter.
When I close the map and open it again using the small arrows, it works fine again. But this doesn't cure the insert and move problem.

I am using the standard archiver from apple to open the zip.

I hope this information is helpful to you and that it stops raining now! Tomorrow I'll leave for holidays so I will not be able to repond for a while.

That makes sense. It seems an error occurs while the WebKit component displays the HTML-page and executes the JavaScript-code for the map - and then it stops. Could you use the latest prerelease, insert and move positions until it stops working and then use Help/Send errorreport... ?

Interesting observation. Did you use the 2.7 or 2.8-SNAPSHOT RouteConverter.app.zip then?

The information is very helpful - and it stopped raining here Wink

I am having similar problems.
Downloaded 2.7 64bit zip version.
Running on OS Lion with latest updates.
App starts OK
Map freezes if I go to another program then return to RC
Map freezes if I open previous saved route
Map freezes after saving new conversion
Grey tint covers map when I turn on select mode.
Can't close program have to force quit ever time and start up again to start new conversion.

Please try the latest 2.8.3 version or the prerelease version. I have fixed some bugs on Mac OS X since 2.7

Does the map work again if you change the position of the divider between map and position list?

Yes the map Zoom is OK after changing position thanks.
I'll download the latest version and try it.

I replace the release version with the prerelease version and it doesn't work
The .jar version is useless.
The .zip installs and has the same map freeze problem as the release version
When you click on the 'Turn on Select Mode' a grey tint covers the map and the selected point doesn't appear in the Position List box after you click on the Insert button.
I am going back to the release version.
Release version works. I can add points to the Position List.
This app need major work.

Thank you for testing. Does that mean, that the original map freeze problem has gone away with 2.8.3?

Are you willing to help? I don't own a Mac and thus rely on users who are willing to test and contribute.
