Reading Garmin .txt files
#1
Hi,
First post!

Garmin Mapsource can write files (waypoints and tracks) in text format (.txt). Can RouteConverter read/ import these?

Two files, Agra.gdb, and its corresponding .txt file, Agra.txt, zipped and attached for reference.

Sutripta

welcome in the forum.

No (you can always try to throw files into RouteConverter - at worst, it's reading garbage from it).

And since a text format with a complex, irregular structure: why don't you use the .gdb file?

Thanks.

.txt for waypoints:
The text file can be imported in a spreadsheet. Which in some cases makes for easier editing. In any case, GPSBabel can read and convert these.

.txt for tracks:
The .gdb file does not explicitly have a field for speed, the .txt file does. GPSBabel chokes on the date/ time format.

Which format do you use for GPSBabel to read the files?

How about exporting to GPX?

Garmin Mapsource - txt (tab delimited) As stated, converts waypoints fine, chokes on tracks.

Saving from Mapsource as gpx contains only position, time, and altitude. Nothing more.
