Thank you for a fantastic program with extensive capabilities. Very impressive!

A question: Does RouteConverter support the concept of a library of "favorites" that can be used for position list creation?

I've accumulated a very large number of "favorite" roads, contacts, lodging, restaurants etc. which I use to construct routes (which are exported to Copilot for realtime guidance). I alternatively use ITNConverter (which explicitly supports "favorites") and RouteConverter to build extensive routes, often containing more than fifty "positions" (or waypoints in Copilot). Having the facility to choose from a persistent library of favorites to populate a "position list" during route creation is of significant benefit.

Is this possible in RouteConverter?

Thanks very much for your continued effort.

I'm happy to read that.

aul.

No. Some users emulate it by having two instance of RouteConverter opened: one with the favorites and the other to build routes. And then they copy waypoints.

Thank you Christian for the response.

I thought there may be a "best practice" work around. Thank you for the suggestion, I'll give it a try.

Should you decide to implement favorites, may I humbly suggest you include the facility to color code them. :-)

Again, thanks for a great program.

Bonjour from Québec,

Vielen Dank für Ihre Arbeit und Ihre Bereitschaft, die Entwicklung als Open Source zu veröffentlichen (hopefully, that makes sense, as my German is still much more rudimentary). I've discovered Route Converter last year and find it a very useful and easy to use tool to plot and edit track. Given my limited experience with Route Converter, I'm unsure if my suggestion is in line with OP, however, I found it while browsing for favorite icons.

In the field, I use the OsmAnd app which is quite capable. While Route Converter can import such .gpx file, I was wondering if it would be possible to display, edit or add information directly from Route Converter from the osm extension field (see exemple attached)? A comment field could also be of use for subjective or temporary information that could then be removed without altering the name / description field. It this something that could realistically be integrated into Route Converter ?

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
Mathieu

Hallo Mathieu,

vielen Dank – das ist gut zu verstehen :-)

It might be a bit difficult to transport this information from the osmand extension to the rendering process since RouteConverter is not meant to support every feature of every program for every data format but just a common subset.

Again a compromise since GPX is one out of more than 100 data formats – and one of two, that have a name and a description.

Not very likely. It would mean you'd have to spend quite some time for development. And pass me as the gatekeeper of a simple, easy to use tool for sporadic users with limited understanding of the domain ;-)

Just look at the bold stuff and it's not obvious at all how this additional data is to be interpreted and how should be displayed – at least for me: I don't know OsmAnd.

Hallo Christian,

Vielen Dank für Ihre prompte und umfassende Antwort.

I have now thanks to you a better understanding of the complexity of working with different variation of .gpx file.

I also understand the need to keep to tool simple to use for people with limited technical knowlege. I probably wouldn't be able to contribute in a meaningful way to Route Planner, as I'm not a programmer (although I have a limited interest for programming), but a librarian and a archivist.

I still like the fact that I can view or modify my OsmAnd's .gpx in Route Converter without corrupting them (as far as I know). That's already something that allow less experience used build up confidence.

Thank you again for your time, both to answer my questions and for your work on Route Converter. I'll make sure to follow closely its development.

Best regards,
Mathieu

Hallo nochmal Christian,

After consideration, my current need could be met by being able to being import a couple of different .gpx file at the same time, being able to give them a different color for identification. I like the swiftness and ease to use of Route Converter, and that way, I could display say side-by-side "places that match a given condition x.gpx" and places that don't match that condition x".gpx . Having two instances of Route Converter open could work in a pinch, but would probably be less intuitive to observe as the number of waypoints / POI increase.

Hopefully, this is more realistic proposition, and the right place to ask about it.

Ob dies möglich ist oder nicht,
Vielen Dank für Ihre Zeit.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen
Mathieu

This is a frequently asked feature which I'll probably never find the time to implement since it means huge changes to the core.

 Thank you Christian,

While useful, I can probably find a way around that limitation. I understand that it might not be worth the time. All apologies to have asked something which was already asked before, given the bilingual nature of the forum, I thought it would be best to straight ask, as I wouldn't have been able to search efficiently through the german posts. Nevertheless, I'll still continue to use Route Converter for preparing .gpx file for bike touring.

Best regards and thanks again,
Mathieu

Um verschiedene Touren farblich unterschiedlich darzustellen, verwende ich Google Maps. Dort kannst du Karten mit den Routen anlegen und für jede Route eine eigene Farbe vergeben.

I use Google Maps to display different tours in different colors. There you can create maps with the routes and assign a separate color for each route.
