Thanks for asking! Here is my (personal) opinion :

The current view for tracks, a Directions based view for routes in your example are just great !

However, I find the following marker ... somehow, pretty big:

I tend to prefer the Google Earth style marker better as they don't take so much space and integrate quite good in places where the number of points may be higher (city, island, coast, ...).
