Google Maps Platform / No map visible
#1
Dear all,

starting with July 16th 2018 Google will turn off the easy to use Online Edition of RouteConverter:
  • the usage of an API key will be mandatory - this might limit the functionality of all old RouteConverter releases
  • providing a credit card for API keys will be mandatory - I won't provide my credit card for the existing API keys so all RouteConverter users who haven't added a private API key won't be able to use the map in RouteConverter
  • Details to Googles announcements can be found here and here
The following steps lead towards your own API Key:
  1. Go to https://developers.google.com/maps/docum...et-api-key
  2. Choose "Maps, Routes, Places"
  3. Type in a project name
  4. Add a Billing Account
  5. Add the API Key in RouteConverter in the initial dialog or later in the preferences at Extras/Options/Paths & Services
  6. Optional: Configure Billing Budgets & Alerts

Not doing this will lead to an error message that looks like this:

Let's see how this turns out. Maybe I'm trying to implement the map based on OpenLayers or I'm trying to focus on the Offline Edition. Any help is welcome ;-)

But this requires a Google Account. I don't want one. How can I start RouteConverter in OpenStreetmap mode?

Download the Offline Edition, it doesn't use the Google Maps API but Mapsforge to display the maps. And I've extended it with 2.24 to support online maps, too.

This is really bad - they had to go and spoil a good thing.
I dont want a google account either so downloaded the Offline Edition but it wont route via the waypoints - it just draws a straight line from one waypoint to the next

It has two routing engines on board which need to download their data first. If the line is straight and dotted, the download is still on the way. See Extras/Downloads...

Hi Christian,
Line is continuous and straight from wp to wp - exactly the same as a track line.

Extras/Downloads - Shows all as Not Modified.  Restarted downloads and none required to be modified. I assume all have been downloaded but still no routing.

Pls see file  https://www.dropbox.com/s/ljeym3bwjtunvm....docx?dl=0

I guess you must be really annoyed with all these new problems.......

Normally I only use RC with tracks that I created elsewhere, but I checked this and routing does not work here either. Screenshot:

In the online edition it works, but only for car roads, not bike- or footpaths. For creating routes for trail-running, I use this (ad supported) online service https://www.afstandmeten.nl/index.php?lang=uk

Morning Christian,
I have installed the Offline version on a different laptop (win 10) and I get the same results - no routing, just straight lines from wp to wp.
Is this the end of RouteConverter? I hope not!

And it's red: that means (like for the Online Edition) that the routing engine could not calculate the route. Please send me the file and I'll check why.

Sometimes. But actually I'm getting a lot of positive feedback which is really motivating me.

Thank you very much. You've helped to find a long standing bug: RouteConverter sometimes was calculating the wrong file names to download and BRouter didn't find find the routing data files. I've uploaded a new prerelease which fixes the problem for me. Please test and report.

You need an API Key to get rid of this.
