Issue with RouteConverter software downloads for Mac
#1
Rolleyes
Good afternoon,

I learned about this program over the week-end.

It seems to be a extremely handy software, but I had have been trying to use it for the last two-days only with a very limited success.

I'm running Mac OS 10.8.x (the lastest version).

I apologize if this was already covered somewhere else, but I haven't find anything in the help section of the website.

I tried to download the English Mac 32-bits version, but I get an error message when I try to unzip it with Mac OS unzipping tolls: "Unable to expand "RouteConverterMac.app.zip" into "Downloads". (Error 1 - Operation not permitted".

I tried to download the English Mac 64-bits version, but it is extremely slow and crashy. Ii seems to be the version 2.9 (while version 2.8 is the lastest officially advertized on the website). The name of the application shown at the top of the window is weird: RouteConverter 2.9-SNAPSHOT-370 from April 8, 2013. Sound like a pre-release version to me. Menulet bar shows also SWT instead of the name of the software with no access to Preferences

I also tried the webstart, but after clicking the "Launch" button absolutely nothing happen (I switched to the Oracle Java version already and have the latest version). Actually, it downloads a file named launch.jnlp, but when I click on it, it opens TextWrangler.

Also it seems using the Mac64 version I cannot add/modify Waypoint, it is extremely slow, routes appears on the map or not... A lot of issues there.

Anybody to tell me where to download a stable version of this software?

Thanks in advance and best regards.

Sorry for the bad user experience. Mac OS X is typically not supported well since I don't own a Mac and virtualizing Mac OS X is forbidden.

It's been covered in the German section: http://forum.routeconverter.com/thread-1239.html

I was annoyed by Mac users complaining about the 2.8 not working so I've replaced the 2.8 release with the latest 2.9 prerelease to get some feedback. Seems to work :-)

Do you know how to change that?

You could help testing RouteConverter. I've just updated the 64-bit prerelease version that should work with Java 7, use the 64-bit VM, set the menu name, fix the SWT instabilities by using

-XstartOnFirstThread -d64 -Xmx1024m -Xdock:name=RouteConverter

on startup. Does it work for you?

Good afternoon Christian,

Thanks a lot for your answer! To reply to your comments...

1) No problems. I understand.

2) Unfortunately, I don't speak German. French and English only.

3) Noted. Doesn't seems to be working very good for me, but OK!

4) No, I do not know how to change that.

5) I'll be more than happy to help, but I'm not a super user. Just a generic one. But let me know what I can do.
I downloaded the pre-release version Mac64. It is not even opening on my iMac...
Any crash report I can send you?
