Print Route and Map
#1
I have a route I will be taking from Toronto, Ontario to Houston, Texas and I tried to print out the route and map using RouteConverter's print function. However the 122 page printout has the start of the trip on page 32, as it does NOT start at the first point in the route and end at the last point in the route. I cannot attach the GPX file as it is not a permitted file type, so I have instead attached a zip of that file. Of course, what I really wanted to print out was the GPX file list of locations in order, showing the name and the latitude and longitude, so that I could easily enter the LAT LONG into my GPX each day from that printout to set up the route to be taken. That printout seems NOT to be an available choice...

Hi RsH,

Christian is offline or about ten days and will answer with a delay.
You may put your GPX into a *.zip archive in the meantime. *.zip is an allowed file type for attachments.

I did that with the 2nd attempt to send the message and you should see that zip file. If not, I attach it again.

Yes, upload was OK.

Starting RouteConverter 2.4.exe and drag&drop the file into it, I see a *.gpx, containing a waypoint list (20 points) and a route (75 points).

Printing map and route (of the route, not the waypoint list) to a pdf printer gives me a 16 page pdf. Start at Laurel St. (point 65), end at Laurel St. Note that no line was marked in the position list before printing.

Selecting position 1 in the position list of the route gives me a 265 pages printoout.

Switching to the waypoint list gives me a fine one page map of the waypoints as expected.

Changing the Type: of this waypoint list to "Route" gives me a fine 13 pages printout, starting at Beecroft Rd, end at Flora St (this is correct, the waypoint is named Westmoreland St) but without map.

Deleting the 2nd position list within the file gives me a 63 pages printout with correct start and end but without map.

Re-loading your original file and deleting the 1st position list within the file gives me a 78 pages printout from Beecroft Rd (correct) to Laurel Rd (incorrect).

Re-startung RouteConverter, deleting the 2nd position list within the file, changing Type: of the remaining waypoint list to "Route", saving the result as file (tomtom 5 route), re-loading the file (displayed as route) gives me a one page map with the waypoints...

curious... problem confirmed, but not solved...

Interesting, isn't it... Yet all I really want is a LIST of each of the 75 points in order, by name, with the LONG and LAT, so I can keep that list with me and enter the LAT and LONG into my Chinese GPS unit <grin> and that type of printout IS NOT available at all. The other, Route and Map, is, indeed, as you have confirmed, a problem... and I'll use Streets and Trips to print out an 88 page strip map of the entire route TO Houston, in Houston and back again before I print out 500 pages from RouteConverter to cover the same trips... It will clearly wait to be fixed, and I do not need the printout at all. It would be nice to have handy as a PDF file but physically printing it with the current problems is a no-no for me. Regards, and let Christian have fun... whenever.

OK, try this:

Load your file, switch to the route with 75 waypoints.
Put the focus to the position list (click with mouse pointer somewhere in the position list).
The combination of Ctrl+A and Ctrl+C marks the whole position list and copies it into the clipboard.
(The right mouse button opens a context menu with mark and copy options, too)
Paste everything into notepad: You'll see Long, Lat and Description in a comma separated format.

Now it depends on your Chinese GPS unit. Hopefully it allows to enter the coordinates in the given format.

For the future, it's essential to give me a very, very precise list of the steps needed to reproduce the problem. One list for each problem, as simple as possible since I'm getting easily confused.

There are a lot of problems with the printing - interesting that it's coming up now after such a long time. Known limitations are:
  • It only works once after the start of RouteConverter since it adds up all routes that have been displayed (I've partly fixed that in the latest prerelease)
  • It works reliably only if there are less than 22 waypoints in the route

Please test with the latest prerelease given the limitations above.

So you are effectively asking me to split the one trip into 22 point portions and start the newest prerelease each time I want to see the result of that 22 point route... which in a long trip like mine can be a real pain in the rump... Okay, I'll try that <grin>...

Wonder if anyone else ever tried this feature!

It's a workaround that is not feasible. If you spend the same time to digest simple test cases that I can fix, that's of more value. I'm still working on the huge pile of message and forum posts and won't be doing tests.
